چکیده

The tropical western Pacific (TWP) includes a large expanse of tropical ocean whose substantial variability has been associated with the El Niño–Southern Oscillation phenomenon. Several diagnostic studies have shown that the climatic variation in this region is associated with variability in other parts of the globe. Recent campaigns such as the Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere Coupled Ocean–Atmosphere Response Experiment (TOGA COARE) have been conducted in this region to gather, distribute, and analyze basic oceanic, atmospheric, and radiation data. As a part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program (Stokes and Schwartz 1994), as many as five Atmospheric Radiation and Cloud Stations (ARCS) will Ground-Based Remote Sensor Observations during PROBE in the Tropical Western Pacific

Evaluating the Effects of Climate Change on Salt Crusts Using Remote Sensing (A Case Study of Sabzevar Playa)

In this study, five sequences of Landsat sensors including MSS, TM, ETM+ and OLI at unequal intervals spanning 42 years between 1973 and 2015, were analyzed to investigate the spatial and temporal variation of salt crusts in Sbzevar playa, central Iran. Landsat satellite imageries and ASTER digital elevation model were prepared, and spatial-temporal analyses were carried out in ENVI and GIS. Fu...

The Radiative, Cloud, and Thermodynamic Properties of the Major Tropical Western Pacific Cloud Regimes

This study investigates the radiative, cloud, and thermodynamic characteristics of the atmosphere separated into objectively defined cloud regimes in the tropical western Pacific (TWP). A cluster analysis is applied to 2 yr of daytime-only data from the International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) to identify four major cloud regimes in the TWP region. A variety of data collected a...

Study of the snowmelt effects on surface and ground water in the Bahar basin using remote sensing data

According to recent Studies, about 60 percent of surface waters and 57 Percent ground waters are located in snowy zones in Iran. In most areas of northern hemisphere and alpine environment areas, snow melt lead to the maximum instantaneous flow rate and is an important part of annual discharge. The present study investigated the effect of snowmelt on the surface waters and ground waters in B...

Remote and Local SST Forcing in Shaping Asian-Australian Monsoon Anomalies

The most striking feature of the Asian-Australian monsoon associated with the El Niño teleconnection is the evolution of anomalous anticyclones over the western North Pacific (WNP) and southeast Indian Ocean (SIO). In this study we investigated the relative role of remote and local SST forcing in shaping the monsoon anomalies with an atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM). Four idealized ...

How sensitive are the Pacific–tropical North Atlantic teleconnections to the position and intensity of El Niño-related warming?

the seasonal shift of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone that modulates deep convection over the anomalous SST. This demonstrates the importance of the mean seasonal atmospheric circulation in modulating the remote teleconnections from the central-western Pacific warming in the model. However, it is suggested here that the cooling in the eastern Pacific associated with El Niño Modoki counterac...
